Scientific conferences can be kind of a pain to attend while still a graduate student - cost of registration + flight + hotel + transport, not to mention food & other costs related to travel! However, my recent conference in Seattle for the Society of Behavioral Medicine, which was one of the best conferences I've attended, was in the perfect location. I had just been to Seattle last May for American College of Sports Medicine's annual conference & stayed in the same hotel as last year's that is just a one mile walk to the conference hotel.

The flight from Portland to Phoenix held about 40 of us.... I too wouldn't want to leave Portland for Phoenix (if I had a choice!)
At Portland's Saturday Market, I visited a booth where the owners sell cat toys made of recycled wool coats & hand-picked cat nip - KittyHooch.com. Miss Ava June seemed to enjoy her birthday gift here.
Great trip... I will miss the northwest; I'm in hot Phoenix now till the next trip!
