Everyone knows...the economy is low; people are in debt, the story goes on and on. I find these little news tidbits and blogs and TV programs interesting with the "how to save money" blurbs.
Some of these tips on the TV shows are like, "duh." One of the people they interviewed said she had gotten rid of some of her phone's features and was considering cutting her cable. GASP! No cable!? How can one survive??? (I have not had cable for over a year now, big deal, I still survive and get my entertainment). I have friends who went without Internet during college, and I did the same for several semesters in Stillwater. Suze Orman has been busting butt and has been a guest spot on so many shows explaining to these dumb dumb dumb women who are in credit card debt in the thousands and hundreds of thousands about maybe not getting that little pedi and mani every week and maybe not buying all these expensive and unnecessary items. Apparently (now this is going a bit far), Orman lectured some lady at the store about not buying some decor for her home, since her son had told Orman that his mom didn't have enough money to buy the things she was about to put on her credit card.
Maybe having frugal parents who now have a lot of money & will always have a lot of money, b/c they were smart about it from the time they first got married. They don't drive Mercedes, BMWs, but do have nice new Toyotas that are more stable and less costly, nor does my mom have to have the latest and greatest $400 Coach purse that every other woman is dying for. I've tried to use a lot of the frugality but still have fun in my life, so I actually am one of the few college kids not in debt, not owing student loans, and actually have some savings. I just find it amazing some of these people who barely make ends meet, but they have these iPhones and are tanning-bed tan with pedis to match.
Like my friend Tasha had told one of her friends who could not pay rent but continually bought Coach bags, "Girl, do you want to live on the street with those little Coach bags?"
